4. Conclusions
A newly developed process for the treatment of simulated
wastewater under microaerophilic–aerobic condition was investigated.
Treatment of simulated wastewater where the azo
dye molecule was cleaved under microaerophilic conditions
and mineralization of organic compounds were carried out
using the same microbial consortia in a sequencing batch
process. The simulated wastewater showed 85.30% COD at
7.72 h HRT and 2.239 kg COD m3 per day loading. The pH
of the wastewater increased from 7.0 to 7.3 and ammonia,
nitrite and nitrate concentrations were reduced substantially.
Decolorization was 94%. In conclusion it is possible to treat
the simulated wastewater by microaerophilic–aerobic treatment
allowing wastewater recycling.
