Histopathological examination of renal tissue
The left kidneys were fixed in 10% formalin solution and then
dehydrated in ascending grades of alcohol and embedded in paraffin.
Sections at 4 μm-thickness were taken, stained with hematoxylin and
eosin (H&E) and examined under light microscope by a pathologist
unaware of the treatment protocol.
Histopathological scoring was performed to evaluate the severity
of renal tubular damage using a semiquantitative scale (Ramesh and
Reeves, 2005) in which the percentage of renal tubules showing
necrosis was scored as follows: 0=no signs of necrosis; 1=b10%;
2=10-25%; 3=25-75%; 4 =N75%.
