placing green oropendolas, Psarocolius viridis, close to the
genus Gymnostinops based on song synapomorphies, which was
later confirmed by molecular evidence (Price & Lanyon 2004). The
existence of successful cases such as this, however, does not
warrant inferring phylogeny based on the total evidence afforded
by song traits.
