Police on Tuesday seized about a million baht's worth of household goods smuggled in from Japan to avoid import taxes. The contraband was found in two containers packed with second-hand furniture at a truck terminal in Pathum Thani's Khlong Luang district. Police led by Pol Col Narongdet Kamolbut, chief of the Economic Crime Suppression Division's sub-division 2, found more than 10 large boxes containing new bicycles, blankets, hats, chairs, beds and other items among more than 200 pieces of used furniture. The untaxed items were placed in the middle of the containers to avoid detection as they are liable to tax and duty. Police are investigating.
