A novel approach including mercerization, acid steam, 80 oC
alkaline solution and high pressure steam for the preparation
of micro- and nano-fibrils from jute fibers was developed,
especially, the acid steam treatment keeps the long strands of
jute fibers compared to traditional acid solution treatment
that shorten the length of jute fibers, and high pressure steam
treatment plays a critical role in receiving micro- and nanofibrils.
The chemical treatments results in the individualized
micro-fibrils and further high pressure steam treatment
forms nano-fibrils. The role of the chemical treatments for
jute fibers is to remove the binder mainly lignin and the role
of the physical action is to split the fibers along fiber axis so
