The chlorine atom should,
therefore, be located at the 3-position. The 13C NMR
spectrum showed signals for 12 aromatic carbons between
ä 151.3 and 111.0; four methoxys at ä 61.0, 56.1, 55.4, and
53.8; three methylenes at ä 46.6, 38.2, and 31.1; one
carbonyl carbon at ä 153.4; one carboxylic methyl carbon
at ä 53.3; and one methine at ä 57.0, in agreement with
the proposed structure 2, which is named romucosine F.
Although the majority of the natural organohalogens are
metabolites from organisms living in marine environments,
several strains of different genera of wood- and forest litterdegrading
basidomycetes are also known to produce halogenated
compounds.22
