The dichloromethane:methanol (1:1) extracts of the root bark
of E. livingstoniana, upon repeated column chromatography and
further purification on Sephadex LH-20 and preparative TLC, gave
new isoflavans 1 and 2 namely 7-hydroxy-20

)]isoflavan (1) and 7,20
-dihydroxy-
[600,600dimethylpyrano (200,300:40

)]isoflavan (2) in addition to
known isoflavans 3-5, pterocarpans 6 and 7, 2-arylbenzofuran 8,
chalcone 9 and flavanone 10 (Fig. 1, Supporting information).
