Poverty is the condition of being poor. Generally, people who live in poverty may not have enough money to buy food and the other things that they need to live. Many poor people live in countries whose economies are not developed. But many people in rich countries also live in poverty. In these rich countries, people who live in poverty generally are old, sick, handicapped, orphaned, or unable to work for some reason. Poverty can lead to crime, disease, and malnutrition. In many countries of the world, governments are trying to fight poverty through programs of various kinds, such as job training, unemployment insurance, and social security.
