The port of Barbados is located to the south of the capital Bridgetown. When it is at full capacity there can be seven ships in port of varying dimensions. The port works hard to ensure the deep water facility is capable of welcoming the largest of vessels. The port facility includes duty-free shopping and passenger facilities alongside the usual securit and port authority provision A new taxi rank has been constructed at the terminal and excursions depart from outside the building along the frequently overused roads around the island. It appears to most visitors that there is a disproportionate number of vehicles travellin the high- ways and that, coupled with the large number of roadside shacks selling beer or run, impacts upon journey times and wear and tear on the tarmac
