Sarun Sumriddetchkajorn received his B.Eng. in electrical engineering with honors in 1994 from Khon Kaen University, Thailand. He earned his M.S. and Ph.D. in optical science and engineering from University of Central Florida in 1998 and 2000, respectively, based on his work in fiber-optic beam control systems. From 1994-1996, he was with National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC)’s Electro-Optics Laboratory, Thailand, responsible for embossed hologram processing and computer generated holograms. He worked at Nuonics Inc., in Florida, USA as a photonics engineer in 2001 responsible for the development of fiber-optic processors using microelectromechanical system, liquid crystal, and acousto-optic technologies. His research interest is in the photonic area where he applies photonics to solve problems for industrial, medical, environmental, and education sectors. Since October 2014, he has been appointed as NECTEC Executive Director.
