Reasons for the
lack of in utero treatment effects on postnatal lean and
adipose tissue accretion are not clear but may be the
result of similar maternal FI (i.e., differences in dam
nutrient intake may partly explain the aforementioned
nonthermal in utero effects) or insufficient maternal hyperthermia
(i.e., the heat load applied to the pregnant
dams was inadequate to alter fetal programming) or the
impact of IUHS may not be expressed until later in life
when the rate of skeletal muscle accretion has slowed
and adipose accretion is increased.
