3. Use Abstracted Holiday Motifs
By using abstract versions of the shapes and colors associated with an upcoming holiday, your photo will speak to seasonal shoppers and curators – while remaining relevant throughout the year. For example, using dots, spots, chevrons and pastel colors in your styling will look great in an Easter feature without including a single egg. Similarly, using stars and sparkle for the Christmas season, instead of trees and ornaments, will extend the life of the photo.
Murat and Asli Candan Ozsaltik, owners of Waen, make geometric glass terrariums in their workshop in Istanbul, Turkey. "We love clean backgrounds with a soft color combinations,” Asli says. To capture the gift-worthiness of their terrariums in product shots, they opt for models holding their products in a way that seems to say, “I got you this gorgeous gift” – a sentiment applicable to gift-giving occasions throughout the year.
