The goals of the Centers of Excellence program are the development of a world class cardiovascular calcium scoring and/or CIMT screening program, increased appropriate patient volumes, improved patient outcomes, and notoriety and recognition for participating Centers of Excellence.
To be considered for certification, a site must be committed to improving patient outcomes through early detection and prevention of CAD.
A primary goal of the program is to increase appropriate utilization of coronary artery calcium scoring or carotid IMT through appropriate patient selection by referring physicians. Secondary goals include standardization of image acquisition, reporting, and patient management, national and local site recognition, the development of a Centers of Excellence Network, CAD prevention data acquisition and benchmarking, and reimbursement when available.
