The influence of CLX below 400 mg L1 is shown in Fig. 1a which displays the effect of different concentrations on the SMA.
Adding CLX to the sludge with intact granules, there appears to be little change in the activity of the MPA whether using acetate or ethanol as the carbon source. Thus CLX had no obvious influence on methane production below 400 mg L1. In the disrupted sludge, the MPA inhibited acetate and ethanol removal by 10.7% and 16.2% respectively at CLX concentrations of 400 mg L1.
