We conclude that the addition of biofilm to culture of C. quadricarinatus
juveniles represents a clear advantage for both survival and
growth of animals. Biofilm is clearly involved in the maintenance of
water quality (essential for a good survival), and perhaps also as complementary
food source, therefore improving the growth of juveniles,
especially early ones. By using biofilm in a zero water exchange system,
a significant reduction in the cost of production could also be
attained.
