Students are predictably the first to tell us
that they need more words. A commitment
to vocabulary building is always appreciated
by students and can contribute to students’
reading development. As students build their
vocabulary knowledge, they gain access to
more advanced texts. Although many course
books have pre- and post-reading exercises
that emphasize the key words in the text,
teachers can set aside ten minutes or less a
week and use the following techniques to
assist students in consolidating that vocabu
