Applying the equation to temperature extremes encountered on
the journey to Sydney, it predicts that a five day green life at an
average January summer temperature of 25 ◦C en route (Bureau of
Meteorology, 2013) can be achieved if the ethylene concentration
is maintained at ≤0.58 L/L (95% confidence limits (CL) of 0.47and
0.72 L/L). The average en route July winter temperature of 14 ◦C
(Bureau of Meteorology, 2013) means that bananas could cope with
a predicted ethylene concentration of 0.90 L/L (CL, 0.84 and 0.95).s.
