Feed 1 contained relatively expensive protein sources like milk products and a level of glutamine (x,%). Feed 2 did not contain the relatively expensive protein sources but also contained the same level of glutamine (x,%). Feed 3 contained 0.4% less glutamine compared to feed 1 and 2 (a level of x-1.4%). Feed 4 contained 1.0% less glutamine compared to feed 1 and 2 (a level of x-1.0%). The feed conversion ratio, (an indicator for growth performance and digestion) during the first two weeks after weaning is presented in Figure 1. It is concluded that suggestions of beneficial effects of glutamine supplementation in piglets as reviewed and described by Wu et al 1996 can be reproduced in a piglet trial.
