Growth of the wildflower industry in Australia is partly reliant
upon the development and introduction of novel products derived
from Australia’s diverse and unique flora. Ptilotus species (family
Amaranthaceae) are, with one exception, indigenous to Australia
(Moore, 2005). A number of Ptilotus spp. have been previously suggested
to have ornamental potential including Ptilotus nobilis (Lee
et al., 2008). Long stems, extended harvest times, and numerous
and fragrant cream-to-pink inflorescences produced over a two
year period suggest that P. nobilis has potential as a potted flowering
plant purchased for its long-lasting colour (Lee et al., 2008). The
Australian Centre for Native Floriculture developed several P. nobilis
selections (Johnston and Joyce, 2009) including cultivar Passion
with dark pink inflorescences and cultivar Purity with white-green
