Tour Championship: Rory McIlroy in contention as Dustin Johnson leads
Rory McIlroy is in contention for a third win of the season after a second-round level-par 70 at the Tour Championship in Atlanta put him within five shots of leader Dustin Johnson.
The Northern Irishman mixed four birdies with four bogeys to sit alongside England's Paul Casey, who also shot a 70, on two under overall.
American Johnson has a one-shot lead after carding a three-under 67.
World number one Jason Day withdrew from the event with a back injury.
The Australian pulled out of the BMW Championship eight holes into his final round two weeks ago and lasted just eight holes into his second round in Atlanta.
FedEx Cup leader Johnson will secure the $10m (£7.7m) prize money on offer if he wins, with a top-five finish likely to be enough.
