Among the survey participants (84% women), men were relatively more likely to provide hair than women (p < 0.0001), unmarried participants were more likely to provide hair than married participants (p = 0.006), and tobacco users were more likely to provide hair than non-users (p = 0.007). Also, poor self-rated health was positively associated with the provision of hair (p = 0.006). The sample included in the present analysis (i.e. those providing both interview data and hair) mainly consisted of young female employees with low educational backgrounds who were employed as workers (as opposed to supervisors/managers, see Table 1).
