Fresh water is a very useful resource for the sustenance of human and industrial life, this is usually sourced from
the environment and used for agricultural, industrial and domestic purposes. After use, the unwanted wastewater is
normally discharged to nearby water bodies with minimal or no treatment in Lagos State, Nigeria. Due to the
increase in population growth in Nigeria and the urbanization of most of her cities, there has been an increase in the
number and type of industries. Along with this industrialization, is a concomitant increase in the volume of water
used and consequently the quantity and quality of wastewater discharged to the water bodies in the state. These
wastewaters contain toxic contaminants, which if continuously discharged to water bodies will seriously affect the
marine ecosystem, fresh water supplies, and eventually human existence
