Protein quantification was carried out according to the method
of Bradford (1976), with bovine serum albumin (Bio-Rad Laboratories,
Milan, Italy) as a standard. Enzymatic activities were determined
spectrophotometrically and expressed, as means of three
replicates, in terms of decrease of absorbance (DA400/min/mg of
protein). Esterase activity was determined using the method
described by Bardi et al. (1993) as modified by Lomolino et al.
(2003). Lipoxygenase activity was determined following the
method of Suda et al. (1995). Beta-glucosidase activity was
measured with p-nitrophenyl b-d-glucopyranoside (Sigma, Milan,
Italy) as substrate, as described
