I was walking along he street minding my own business, deep in thought about Jack–my brother. He was being a jerk, not only to me, but to the whole family.
My thoughts were broken when a teenager ran past me, he was slight and skinny with a beanie pulled tightly over his head. “Stop him,” came a shout from somewhere behind me–I couldn’t see.
My attention returned to the kid as he dodged around a corner, and I followed him. He ran past the only other person in the street, a workman sitting on a squat wall smoking a cigarette. I watched as the kid vaulted the wall and hedge startling the worker.
I stopped in my tracks as I saw an arm reach around the guys neck and pull him backwards.
There was muffled cries, and I could see the shrubs moving furiously. Sprinting over I chanced a look.
The worker was splayed out on his back, his arms thrashing. Pinning him down was the kid, who seemed a lot stronger than he appeared.
I covered my mouth and gasped as I watched the kids form soften and lose definition. What followed was something quiet alien. The kids form pushed into the workers mouth, by now it has turned to a silvery liquid. The workers body twitched and convulsed, but finally gave up any resistance and what remained of the kid entered the man.
Thoughts were wheeling in my head; how was this possible. I heard the voices again. “Did you see which way he went?” “He went that way. You and you go that way, we’ll circle around the other way.”
I wondered what the kid had done, when I heard rustle of leaves. The worker stepped over the wall and looked at me. I nodded at the bag of groceries on the path and he sat down and picked up the dropped cigarette and took a long drag.
