1. What we are going to do?
In rural areas, populations are aging and decreasing, so traditional culture is being lost and it is
unlikely to be passed on to future generations. It has been a serious issue for Japan, and will come
up in your countries in the near future as well. Participants are encourage to learn how people
living in rural areas confront those problems and maintain their communities. It might be a clue to
sustainable development in our countries.
2. What we need to prepare?
Those areas are located in the mountain side and temperatures will drop to below zero during the
night in the middle of December. Participants are highly recommend to bring heavy winter clothing
or find them after arriving at Japan. Please also remember to take your own night clothes, towels
and toiletries with you for staying at SIT Takatsue Seminar House.
3. What about radioactivity level in those areas?
The results of environmental radioactivity measurement in both Showa village and Minami-Aizu
town mark 0.05μSv/hour, while 0.045μSv in Saitama city (SIT Omiya campus), 0.037μSv at
Haneda airport in Tokyo, 0.13μSv in Pathum Thani (Thailand), 0.17μSv in Singapore at present.
SIT faculties, students and their families stay at SIT Seminar House for their trips or study programs
regularly and there is no occurrence of health hazards.
