A microstrip antenna with circular truncated comers for
polarization reconfigurability has been simulated and
fabricated. Polarization reconfiguarbility is achieved by
shorting or opening between the main patch and the comer.
Good impedance matching is obtained for both polarization
states without requiring any additional matching network. The
fabricated antenna showed slightly different from the simulated
return losses , axial ratios and front to back ratios
characteristics. The potential cause of the discrepancies comes
from the connector that is not taken into account in the CST
simulation. The simulated and measured result indicated that
the polarization switching can be performed by shorting or
opening between the main radiation patch and the comer by a
conductor. This concept can be used to improve the
reconfigurable antenna in a future by using electronic
switching such as a PIN diode to switch the polarization
instead of conductor.
