From the findings, we found that students at Lac Hong University in Vietnam face the same problems in English listening comprehension with us. Lac Hong University’s research did the survey under the topic of “Difficulties and strategies in listening comprehension”. They used a questionnaire to collect the data of frequency ranging from never to always. There are fifty English major from different classes in the faculty of foreign language in Lac Hong University participated in this research. They reported that the listening part is an obstacle indeed. They identified the problems from the listening material.
According to their result, unfamiliar topic is a problem sometimes. Moreover they reported that variety of terms can cause the English listening ability such as a business report and a political issue. All of these encountered their students in term of unfamiliar topic. Other problems are various accents, which are unfamiliar to them. The result of this problem demonstrates that French accent is hard to understand than British or American accent. Besides, the long listening text is barrier to students, if the listening text is too long they are unable to catch the meaning. Also the speed of speech actually causes difficulty to students. The normal speed of native spoken is under control. Thus, students cannot understand what they hear so students feel it hard to criminate sound. (Lac Hong University, 2015)
The result of Lac Hong University is the same problems with our research. For example, an unfamiliar topic, variety accents, the long listening text, and the speed of speech.
On the other hand, the findings of research’s Lac Hong University pointed out that there are not only the difficulties in the messages but the problems from limited environment surrounding the students can causes their ability like noise.
