In thepresentstudyproteaseproducingbacterialstrainssuchas Bacillus cereus,Proteusmirabilis,Proteus
vulgaris and Enterobacter aerogenes wereisolatedfromspoiled fish andshrimptissues.Theisolated
strains wereindividuallyinoculatedintotheformulatedculturemediasuppliedwithvariousconcen-
trations (2.5–20%) oftrash fish (Odonus niger) meatpowderasmajorsubstrate.Amongthetested
substrateconcentrations,5%substratesuppliedmediumfavoredmaximumprotease(3.82–5.13IUml1)
production. Afteroptimizationofsubstrateconcentration,theorganismsweretestedindividuallyfor
their proteaseproductioncapacityatvariouspHsandtemperatures.Theresultsshowedthatallthe
testedstrainswerecapableofproducinghighproteaseatpH6and50 1C. Thecrudeproteasesproduced
by thetestedorganismswereindividuallypurified byMLFTPPandASBPmethods.Thepartiallypurified
enzymes werescreenedagainstfewpathogenicbacterialstrains,anditwasobservedthattheenzyme
produced by P.vulgaris exhibitedthehighestantibacterialactivitywiththeinhibitionzoneranged
between 168.070.82 and204.371.25AU/ml.Further,thepartiallypurified enzymeof P.vulgaris alone
characterizedthroughSDS-PAGEanalysisanddetermineditsmolecularmassas65.0KDa.
