Hospital acquired pressure ulcers (HAPUs) are considered
a nurse sensitive quality care indicator,
implying that good nursing care may prevent their
development (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid
Services, 2010). This nurse-driven quality improvement
initiative demonstrates that a peer-to-peer
learning teaching initiative such as the Resource
Nurse program is a cost effective way to address
the issue of pressure ulcers in an acute care setting.
This model is an effective way to change practice
by supporting an interdependence of peers
learning from and teaching each other in pursuit
of a common goal of improving patient outcomes
by using evidence supported interventions
(McKeachie and Svinicki, 2006).
