Earlier studies have noted that patients with hard-to-heal
ulcers are often treated without a proper diagnosis, leading to
suboptimal treatment (Hofman et al, 1997; Hjelnr et al, 2000;
Oien andTennvall, 2006).This was the motivation behind the
development of RUT, a quality registry introduced nationally
in May 2009 as a tool for clinical assessment of hard-to-heal
ulcers, treatment strategies and continuity of care (Oien,
2009). Patients with hard-to-heal leg, foot or pressure ulcers
are registered by a nurse or physician on two occasions.
