I'm finding I really like the designs with the photo covering all or most of the cover. It's important to be able to easily read the words, of course. I prefer the title to be higher up on the cover, so it's more in the sky/hillside part of the illustration, and not over the town part of the illustration.
The title is long, and some people split up the phrasing so that it splits at "Memoir of a War" all on one line, which makes it sound like a war story, and that doesn't give the right impression. The important phrase is "War on Poverty." Also, and I think this is kind of tricky from the design end, the "war on poverty" part is more important than "paradise" is.
I didn't say this originally, but I am now realizing I'd like to have Talk Story Press on the spine. I can work with the winner later on that.
Thanks for all the good work. It's so interesting to see what everyone has done, and I appreciate every single one of your entries.
