More recent work in tree shape modeling involves particle
systems. With the exception of [3], particle systems ap
proximate tree shapes obtained from photographs ( [4], [9],
[lO]). Palubicki et al. [3] devised a particle flow which ap
proximates bud fate models. These methods are not directly
applicable to motion capture data because these methods
use photographs or environmental conditions that are not
collected during motion capture. Photographs of the tree
could be taken during motion capture (and indeed are taken
during optical motion capture) but we focus take only marker
positions as input because this simplifies data collection and
processing by reusing the background removal and image
alignment performed as part of marker position calculation.
