Land use map of the Kazhakuttam reveals that there
is a disproportionate distribution of land use types. In this
study six land uses are considered such as builtup, water body,
forest, mixed vegetation, barren land, and agriculture.
The main cause of the reduction in forest is due to
high demand of land for habitation purposes as well as
increase in population and developmental activities making
the land unsuitable for farming. During these years built up
areas has also increased due to increase in population.
Waterbody in the study area also decreases These
considerably due to solid waste deposition as well as sand
mining from rivers, which leads to declination of water table
