I enjoy reading your magazine every month-there are always so many new and excitting idea in each issue! Yet I have to admit that i often feel a bit discouraged after reading about many of these communicative ideas.I think they would be really hard to put to work in my situation. Let me explain.
I work in a secondary school which is very crowded - classes are really large-and I am the only qualified English teacher for our whole school. All every my country people want to study English but it is difficult to find good teachers. The minitstry of education can't pay school teachers very much.So many teachers leave the school in order to teach praivately. That's why we often have only one or two English teachers for the entri school.I teach several sections of classes and have too many learners to respond to. It’s very frustrating, especially when you want to do some communicative activities with them.
Besides having very crowded classes, my classes are also quite mixed in ability. In my case, that means having some high-beginners in the same class as some more intermediate-level. Some learners have been sent to private language school in addition to the regular classes they get in school , so they are usually ahead of the rest of the learners and consequently bored. My school director says we can’t move these upper-end learners into a different section; they have to stay with the same class. I feel torn since I know that they will be bored, yet the rest of the class (usually about two-thirds of each class) are not at such a high level.
It seems that whatever I do, I can’t please everybody. Some days I just don’t know what to do. Isn’t there someone who could give me some advice? I would be very grateful for any help you or your readers could offer.
Yours sincerely
