Please find below information about drop days at Bromsgrove this academic year. We are proud to be having our first drop day today themed around Polio Points.
Drop days are days throughout the year where the 'formal' curriculum is collapsed for all students and instead a day of collaborative learning, extended project work and team work takes place. These days are usually based around a theme and all students gain great benefits from taking part in terms of valuable knowledge and experience. We have three drop days this academic year; with each one having a different theme to the one before, giving each their own unique experience and flavour. Please rest assured that drop days are days full of learning where students are engaged in learning and developing their minds and skills.
Today, we have an outstanding outside speaker coming to Bromsgrove for our first drop day and he will be speaking to all students and running workshops with different year groups, regarding the new Global Goals for Sustainable Development. d'Arcy Lunn is a Senior Facilitator for the Jump Foundation, which is a non-profit social enterprise that uses experiential education to allow all individuals to realise their passion and potential to advance the world in which we live.
However, today is not solely presentations and workshops. Students will be grouped in House mixed age groups: Year 7 and 8, Years 9 and 10, and Years 11, 12, 13. Each group has a different challenge to complete which links to the Global Goals. Students will work in small groups, closely supported, supervised, advised by teaching staff on a variety of tasks as they take a lead role in forging a new pathway in their learning.
We have been really looking forward to this day as it is a key element to the broad and enlightened education that all students receive here at Bromsgrove. Following the drop day, we will share highlights with you via the website.
Best regards,
