Thai Arts Initiative in London seeks proposals for artworks, art projects, performances and screening programmes to be featured in The First Thai Arts Festival at Bournemouth, England. The festival runs from 11th to 19th July 2015.
Across the Ocean is a multi-platform exhibition that is the main component of the festival. It aims to display new artistic activities that are the culmination of aesthetic encounters between Thai and British cultures. It aims to highlight on the richness of socio-cultural exchange that could be traced back to the Age of Maritime Exploration in the 15th Century, hence the title “Across the Ocean”. The title also signifies that this legacy indeed continues into our present day through various means, such as appears in new media and digital culture.
This call for proposals is opened to artists, architects, designers, film-makers and innovators with no preference to those with high experience. The programme is not limited to Thai citizen although England and EU-based Thai artists are encouraged to apply. The proposals that are inspired by encounters with Thai culture are also eligible. The festival does not only aim to exhibit fresh and innovative arts projects from Thailand to the British and international audiences, but also encourages artistic exchange and collaboration between the profession.
The festival space is located between Bournemouth Pier and Bournemouth tourist information centre. Therefore, the Proposals should seek to use the outdoor space and the environment of the festival to their advantages. As Bournemouth seafront is a popular location for local audiences and tourists alike during exhibition period, proposals with audience engagement are preferable.
Proposals will be reviewed by TAIL team with additional inputs from qualified advisors. Although the festival is able to provide accommodation and living expense for the selected proposals, the applicants are strongly advised to seek their additional financial support from other means.
