The EOS is a multivariate approach to the identification of odours
based on the use of chemical sensors and with the help of pat-
tern recognition techniques like principal components analysis
(PCA), discriminant function analysis (DFA) and artificial neural
networks [10–13]. EOS technology, along with pattern recognition
techniques, has been successfully used for classification of Yves
Saint Laurent perfumes [10], discrimination of a perfumery com-
pound in a fragrance [11], and classification of volatiles of products
such as food, beverages and other perfumes [12]. However, this
technology has not yet been employed for discrimination of forgery
perfumes.
