In 1966, sulfer dyes represented 9.1% of total US dye production and 15.8% of the dyes made for use on cellulosic fibers , and the world production was estimated at 110,000-120,000 tons per year. This is the highest production percentage of any group of dyes. In 2007, sulfer dyes were the third-highest produced dyes in China at 8500 tons. Half of the volume of all dyes used on cellulosic fibers are sulfer dyes, of which approximately 80% are black sulfer dyes
