Fieldexperimentswereconductedtoexaminetheeffectoftillagepracticesonsedimentandnutrientloss andsoybeangrowthundernaturalrainfallconditions.Threetillagepracticeswereapplied:downsloperidge (check),downsloperidge+contourlivinghedgerow,andcrossridge.Crossridgetillagereducedsurfacerunoff by69% andsedimentyieldby86%,comparedtothechecktreatment.Thedownsloperidgewithacontourliv鄄 inghedgerowreducedsurfacerunoffby24% andsedimentyieldby53%.Additionally,comparedtothecheck plot,nutrientlossescarriedbyrunoffwerereducedbyover68% andthatcarriedinthesedimentwasreduced morethan85% in the cross ridge plot.Nutrient losses in runoff were reduced by 20% to 30% in the downsloperidgeandcontourlivinghedgerowplotandthosecarriedinthesedimentwerereducedby44% to 57%.Crossridgetillagesoybeanyieldsexceededthoseofthedownsloperidgeanddownsloperidge+contour livinghedgerowtreatmentsby16% 18%.Crossridgetillagecouldcontributetothepreventionsedimentand nutrientlossandcouldimprovecropyield,andthusitisrecommendedtobeappliedtomildslopesinthered soilregion.
