GENDER, “REFUGEENESS,” HIV, AND PREGNANCY:
AN INTERSECTIONAL APPROACH
We begin our discussion with a brief overview of the origins and evolution of
intersectionality. From there we will move to a three-part analysis that highlights the
relevance and contribution of intersectionality to provide a better understanding of
the experiences of HIV-positive refugee women in the context of pregnancy. Lastly,
we will examine how this framework may be useful for nursing practice, research,
and knowledge development.
