There was no evidence of association between the time of discharge
and maternal readmission for morbidity. The only RCT that evaluated this outcome
showed no difference in risk of maternal readmission among women discharged within
24 hours or at a later time (RR=0.82, 95% CI 0.22 to 2.99) (3). Pooled analysis of the two
cohort studies also showed no effect on the risk of maternal readmission (RR=1.38, 95%
CI 0.06 to 32.6). The overall quality of evidence was graded as low.
