Over in the mansion Having Halloween fun Was a spooky mother ghost And her noisy ghostly son. “Boo,” said the mother. “I boo,” said the son. And they booed all night Making trick-or-treaters run. Up in the attic Where the spider webs grew
Was a brown mama bat And her batty babies two. “Squeak,” said the mama. “We squeak,” said the two. And they squeaked all night Making trick-or-run Down in the cellar Where no one wants to be Was a grumpy father troll And his little trollies three. “Snarl,” said the father. “We snarl,” said the three. And they snarled all night Making trick-or-treaters flee. Way up in a ballroom Dripping water on the floor, A monster bobbed for apples With his little monsters four. “Chomp!” said the papa. “We chomp,” said the four. The sound of monsters chomping Kept the children from the door. At the end of the hallway Looking very much alive Was a tatty wrapped-up mummy And her little mummies five. “Moan,” said the mother. “We moan,” said the five. And their moaning and their groaning Sent kids running down the drive. Out on the porch steps Peering up and down the street, The ghosts looked bewildered. No one came to get a treat. “No kids,” said the mummies. “No kids,” the bats squeaked. “Where are they?” wailed the trollies. Halloween was incomplete. Then from the sidewalk Kids came running as they yelled, “We thought you were tricksters So we didn’t ring the bell!” “We treat!” said the monsters. And all the kids said, “Whew!” The families gave out goodies. “Happy Halloween to you!”
