The subjects for Eric Kellerman’s ‘The Box: A Typology of Poses in a Confined Space’ must feel awfully claustrophobic after their shoots are finished. The premise behind the series is having unclothed women using only their bodies to create typographic captures.
Kellerman’s work is primarily with the natural female form and he consistently works with a group of female collaborators that must use their experience in yoga or dance to express the kinetic forms required. Using a monochromatic theme with the images helps create an evocative canvas that results in the focus not being on the women being completely nude, but instead on the typographic poses they’re performing.
In such claustrophobic spaces, the subjects must ironically think outside of the box to create the letters they’re to represent.
