this chapter explored single-variable searches as well as both unconstrained and constrained multivariate searches. The types of problems for which search methods are most likely to be called into service are the difficult ones, which are probably the multivariate constrained problems. Of the many methods available for multivariate constrained optimizations, the search along the constraint was chosen because of its wide applicability (although it is not necessarily the most efficient) and because it follows logically form calculus methods.
