Fig. 1, which is inspired by Bonoma and Johnston's (1978) seminal article on the social psychology of buying and selling, summarizes the discussion of the rewards and costs in business exchange that constitute the antecedents of attraction. Unidirectional arrows denote rewards/ costs provided by one party to another, bidirectional arrows rewards/ costs arising from interaction, and rounded arrows rewards/costs arising within the person.
The figure demonstrates the complexity of interpersonal reward/ cost structures and their connection to the interorganizational level.
