Tourism has a special relationship with the environment, as it largely depends on a clean and attractive environment but also consumes natural resources. It is ideally placed as a source of income related to the conservation of natural heritage. As a sector it is vulnerable to the effects of climate change and needs to be part of adaptation strategies and activities. It should also contribute to mitigation activity while being aware of the effect of global mitigation on travel patterns. The sector is becoming increasingly aware of the need to engage in environmental management.
