A French 19th Century Louis XVI St. Tulipwood Armoire
An elegant and extremely high quality French 19th century Louis XVI st. tulipwood armoire. Raised on tapered feet with ormolu sabots this tulipwood and kingwood quarter veneered armoire has two doors with ormolu keyhole escutcheons and hinges. The superb doors are quarter veneered panels with charm wood borders in a Greek key design as well as satinwood inlay on the sides with the illusion of a three dimensional reeded effect. The veneer is continued on the sides and apron with finely chased pierced ormolu mounts at the top and bottom of the doors. Inside lays the original shelf and original mirrors fitted within a mahogany framework. The doors have a lock mechanism which locks top and bottom thereby eliminating any warping of the wood. All original patina and original ormolu mounts and hardware. All original gilt throughout.
