Data was collected for the study using face-to face in-depth semistructured interviews. A qualitative technique was considered suitable for a study of this nature since the focus of qualitative research is on participants’ perceptions and experiences [37]. For the study, the goal was for expatriates to share openly their experiences as hotel general managers while working an international assignment at a Jamaican hotel. The research used a pre-designed interview protocol to elicit responses. Interviews lasted between one hour and two hours/fifteen minutes. Each interview took place in the general manager’s office at each hotel. Interviews were conducted between May 17 and June 6, 2010. General Managers were asked for permission to record the interviews and all but one agreed. Interviews were recorded to provide accuracy for data analysis.
