However, while Taiwanese respondents are more likely to understate their job performance based on cultural norms, the lower level of organizational commitment reported in the Taiwan sample is more surprising. Other research has suggested that reported organizational commitment levels are equivalent between the two countries (Silverthorne, 2004). This result is also somewhat different from what would be predicted by Hofstede (1991) since a high individualism culture such as the USA, is more person centered than organizational centered whereas a low individualism culture, like Taiwan, is the opposite.
