Development should not occur on the narrowest sections of the sandbar, for that is where breaching is most likely, but in the search for a suitable environment for man we have disclosed a most fortunate situation. The width of a dune tends to be a function of its height and the angle of repose of stabilized sand; therefore the primacy and secondary dunes do not occupy much space, but the flatter backdune area tends to be the widest of all the components of the sandbar and it is here, propitiously, that the most delightful, diverse, safe and tolerant environment exists.
